Field Checker

Field Checker was designed to be used on a device running Palm OS™ v.3.2 or later but may be used on other devices using the Palm OS™. Field Checker works with Standard Symbol SPT 1500/1700/1740 Laser Barcode Readers and Palm™ handhelds or Palm Powered™ handhelds (e.g. Palm III or a Visor handheld PDA).

  •  The application replaces paper collection of field data.
  •  This data will later HotSync™ to a PC via serial connection or modem writing out the leaf data collected into a comma separated value (csv) or eXtensible Markup Language (xml) formatted file. The format is up to the user when ordering the product.
  •  Certain administration functions were added to allow this solution to be customizable and configurable to collect data for different crops. The customizations have been added to make this a more generic solution instead of specific for any one crop or customer.
  •  Data can be entered by Grower, Field, and Checker (inputter of data).
  •  Common data collected is available in drop down lists, decreasing the amount of stylus inputted data in the field (using Graffiti).
  •  Averages are available for data collected by Grower, Field and date.
  •  Most predefined data is customizable through the Admin functionality.
  •  Update PC software with the csv or xml file created when you HotSync™.
  •  Configurable Security features put you in charge.
  •  Field Checker is ready for immediate use by you and your field or mobile workforce.

Main Form

The Main form is the starting point to the application. This is a two page form. From here you can begin gathering field data for a Grower, Field, and Checker, check statistics, delete old leaf data, and perform administration tasks. If the software is not registered, "Main *** Demo ***" is displayed at the top as shown here. The application has a 30 day trial period at which time you will have to register it or exit. Registration of Field Checker is accomplished through the Admin functionality.

To begin collecting data, choose a Grower from the predefined list, then choose a Field. The Fields listed are based upon the Grower previously picked. The Checker is also a predefined list, independent of the Grower and Field selected. Adding a General Note here will add this information to each leaf collected for this Grower, Field and Checker (granted the inputter does not exit the application).

The "Clear" button is available on most forms to clear out information in text fields where the cursor is placed so as to minimize the need for the inputter to use their stylus.

The "Admin" button allows an administrator to make fundamental changes to the way Field Checker operates and maintain all the predefined lists. We will get into more detail about Admin later.

The "Stats" button displays a form to view the averages on data collected by Grower, Field and date. We'll discuss this in more detail later.

The "Del" button displays a form for deleting leaf data from the Palm database by date, Grower, Field, and/or Checker. We'll discuss this in more detail later.

Let's begin to collect data for our selected field using the "Next" button.
